Hi!
So this is my first blog AND my first entry! The reason that I am starting this blog in the first place is to give myself a reason to try some of the cool DIY projects and recipes that I've pinned on Pinterest. I know the title "The Pinterest Project" has already been done, but this blog is going to be different because I don't have ANY blog experience, and my entries are going to be about how "real people" do these projects (I know everyone is a real person, but considering I have a full-time job and don't have tons of time to devote to these projects and am not very handy on top of it all, this will be about what really happens when people try some of this stuff!).
SO...with that being said, I'm going to show some of my pins and actual attempts at projects that I've worked on over the next few days to kick this whole "blog thing" off! Since I've been trying recipes and DIY projects long before I decided to do this blog, my first few entries are going to be a hodge-podge of everything I've worked on so far. I know my pictures aren't very good, but I promise I'll try and recap things a little better as I do this more often.
Pinterest Idea #1:
"Anthro-inspired canisters"
Actual turnout:
I love LoVe LOVE Bath & Body Works 3-wick candles, so that is what I used for my first attempt at this. After my candle burned out, I immediately poured the wax out. Obviously there was still some wax left so I did the best I could to wipe it out with a paper towel while it was still warm. My next feat was try to get the labels off. On the website, they made it look super easy to get the labels off, which was a complete lie. I tried using vinegar like it said, which was also an epic fail. I did have a lot of luck using olive oil, though. That took the front label and bottom label off much easier than the vinegar. After cleaning it all off, I washed it with soap and water, windexed it to make it clear, and voila!! See my pics below.

Pinterest Idea #2:
"Food Coloring Dyed Skewers"
Actual turnout:
I was going home for the 4th of July this year (I'm from NJ) and my Mom and Dad said that Sean (my boyfriend) and I had to cook a meal one night. After thinking about what would be good (and easy), I had the brilliant idea to make kabobs. Since I was trying to be festive, I saw this cute pin to dye skewers and wanted to dye some red and blue. The deceiving part of the website was that they did not specify how long you need to dye the skewers in the food coloring tinted water. I used old cookie sheets and put about 10 drops of red food coloring in one and 10 drops of blue in another. I figured it'd only take about an hour or two to dye them, but I couldn't have been more wrong! I had to dye those stupid skewers for almost 3 days straight to get them to tint! When it was all said and done, I was thrilled since they were cute, and put them in a few old cups to dry. I left them out for over 24 hours and then put them back in the plastic baggie they came in so I could put them in my suitcase. When I went to pack a week later, I realized that the skewers clearly hadn't dried long enough because they were all molded. If I had to give any tips, I'd say give yourself at least 4-5 days before you plan on using the skewers and make sure to dry them COMPLETELY before storing them.
Skewers in the blue water:
...until next time!
